Whenever I took off in St. Vincent I always took off towards the sea which is the approach. If one takes off towards the mountains there is a very strong possibility of the downdraft coming off the mountains could cause the aircraft to lose altitude. I remember one of LIAT's pilots did that takeoff and was fired for doing so. He lost quite a lot of altitude. With the 727 and their powerful P&T engines they can eaisly climb at 2000-3000ft/min

amerijet only comes once a week so we get use to it :P

It's too bad the locals have to deal with that sound all the time.

actually....looking at another video i realised that the airstrip is sideways..so now i understand why...@noreik67 u done know...dominica massive..hold strong

full of frickin cargo!!!! i was wondering y it takes off from mountains...we have about the same length runway(well now its extended) in dominica and it is situated in the same position..mountain behind sea infront....amerijet lands from the mountain and takes off towards the sea :S however the only aircraft that can land from the sea is LIAT... still :S...maybe the FAA has diff airport policies...

lol i know i'm also from st. vincent and time for lecture :D
most dash 8 pilots (liat and caribbean star) complain about liats short runways a lot and how its dangerous so its about time.
also the only reason why amerijet takes off into the mountains is quite simple...
its a huge jet unlike the rest and the wind from the oceans going over the mountains creates great lift for the plane. its the same thing that applies to st. maarten's princess julianna intl.
What was the date of this takeoff?
