Catto a man among men and a graduate of the Institute for Colored Youth, which later became Cheyney University which was founded by Quakers, and listen to the Cheyney University President talk about Fanny Jackson Coppin a trail blazing woman, who was born a slave in 1837 in Washington D.C., she was ahead of her time in the work she did in Education. Friends, Liberty, and the pursuit of Education is a documentary which will be out in 2008.
Liberty, Friends, and the pursuit of Education is a short documentary. This documentary will tell the story of African American history (in turn American history) from Pre-Civil War America through to today, and show the beginnings of African American Education which has assistance from the Society of Friends in Philadelphia, as well the abolishionist movement. This documentary will visit Underground Railroad related places to put the journey from the 1800's through to today into prospective.
Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and the surounding area of Cheyney, Swarthmore, and Kennett Square in Chester County, PA are locations that were visited in the making of this documentary.
