The first time I saw it was on a special promoting old-time TV commercials. Either the originals were before my time or they weren't aired in the Philadelphia/New York area at the time. Never saw Hamms at a local liquor store in the '70s when I was old enough to drink alcohol legally, so it must have been a regional thing.
Ah yes, I live in St. Paul and you could go down to the brewery and fill up on the spring water they used for the beer. By the time I started drinking (15) it was a Stroh's brewery, ah that Minestrohta Strohs 30 packs.
I remember wanting to "cut" my throat after drinking that swill, ranked right up there with "Black Label".
They did have the best bar beer signs though.
Miller Brewing now owns the label and still sells it in limited markets , they have no plans to discontinue it , but also have decided it wasn't worth promoting either.
i remeber blatz! wish i could find it out here in frisco.. just picked up a 12 pack of hamms though!! love hamms.

Palmers on the West Bank and Costellos in St. Paul are two that come to mind right away...

I don't remember Blatz commercials, but remember the beer. Also remember my grandparents drinking "Kingsbury" beer brewed in Manitowoc WI.
