Actually, the flywheel on a Rumely is too narrow for belt work. The wheel on the right side is used for belt drive and the mechanism inside is the clutch. The clutch is similar to the type used on steam traction engines -- brake shoes that grip the inside of the wheel and transmit power to a pinion gear.
Oil Pulls are fascinating and they have a great sound. Love that "thump, thump".
Rumely's are my fave old tractor. Nice sound too, especially if you run thru a subwoofer.
Question. The flywheel on the left side is basically your power take off for belt-driven equipment like threshers and such. What is the wheel on the right side opposite the flywheel for?
