My layout isn't exactly level so there's some grades on the layout in places. You'll see the train slow as it hits one grade, then gain speed as the loco clears the top of the grade. On a level layout, this Riv Big-Boy can haul about 40 cars without much trouble. (Noise in the background is a treadmill, not the loco's motor!)
The Rivarossi Big Boy is one of the lightest models of the locomotive, so this one has had a large amount of weight added to improve it's performance. To keep the motor from burning out if it gets overloaded, the traction tires have been removed. This lets the wheels slip if necessary.
Thats not bad BIGBOY, not bad at all. Nice little set up. Is that an HO scale?
