  • I need to oil harden a sword. Need professional service. Are you able to do this kind of service? Also please give me an idea of how much service like this would cost?

    Regards

  • @agoldek We need to know material type, straightness hardness required and a phone number/name to contact or call Jeff at 323-583-8711 for quote

    Chuck

  • Just for info, our equipment can handle parts up to 24 feet long. We perform the heat treat on the fuel line for the external tank, on the shuttle.

  • Actually, it's not really dangerous. However, each furnace operator is trained. Both classroom and on-the-job, then given a written exam. Following that, they are supervised over a period of time, before being allowed to perform on their own. Glad that you found the video interesting.

  • What are you dipping the steel into.

Is this a hardening process of some sort? please use laymans terms as english is my second language.

  • The parts are being rapid cooled (Quenched) in oil to attain maximum hardness. Later they will be tempered at a lower temperature to reduce hardness and relieve stresses, which will prevent cracking.

  • thats pretty cool

  • wtf am i fappin to?

  • @groves28 i need my penis treated. material is flesh, and is very straight when its hard. can u give me a quote Chuck?

  • So that flame when the steel hits the oil is burning oil? Is that not harmful to breath?

  • he's wearing gloves:P

  • LOL not sure PPE would do much to help you if any part of that thing made contact with you. Unless the PPE is designed not to melt and catch fire. Pretty cool stuff though.

  • Holy God !!!

It reminds me of like the end of the world, do you know what I mean ?

  • Hello!

You said you are using endotermic atmosphere. Do you have to purge it with nitrogen before opening the furnace cover so you prevent explosion or just open and let it burn?

Also, dont the pieces oxidize in this 20 sec high temperature in contact with atmospheric air?

    Thanks a lot!
