The City of Madison Heights, a member of the Regional Energy Office, sought Energy Efficiency and Conservation Block Grant Funds to improve the façade at their city hall. The poorly installed façade was the cause of significant occupant discomfort due to the significant amounts of cold air leakage due to gaps and breaks in the thermal envelope.
Initially, the city expected to only replace the façade on the front of their building. However, WARM Training technical staff conducted an analysis to estimate potential savings and discovered that much greater savings could result from retrofitting three walls of the building. The City followed the advice of the Energy Office and retrofitted three walls of the façade with an Exterior Insulated Finishing System that provides both insulation and air sealing for the façade.
The City of Madison Heights expects to save over three thousand dollars annually in heating and cooling costs due to the improvements, in addition to the improved occupant comfort. The technical expertise provided by the SEMREO made a good project into a great one.
