BUNKERS AT DENMARK'S EXPENSE
It is believed that between 50,000 and 100,000 workers from the entire country worked on the construction of the German bunker installations. The policy of collaboration provided good conditions for the German occupation forces to acquire Danish workers in the building of the bunkers. It was impossible for unemployed workers to refuse working for the Germans, since, in that event, their unemployment support would be stopped.

With reference to paying for the building, in the end it was the Danish state that paid. Workers and contractors demanded ample compensation in the attempt to delay the construction. The German military, however, paid gladly its bills with the money the National Bank's presses continued to print.

It was not an insignificant amount. The price for the bunkers amounted to 10 billion kroner. That would today equal 300-400 billion kroner or the same as 12 Storbælt bridges, and the bunkers
