One of the first bands from the Canterbury School (SOFT MACHINE or HATFIELD AND THE NORTH), EGG was a trio consisting of... Dave STEWART on organ, piano and tone generator, Mont CAMPBELL on bass and vocals (also organ, piano and French Horn), and Clive BROOKS on drums. The music is very structured and composed, with classical pieces (BACH) and some light jazzy influences. The band explored a variety of time signatures and key relationships, sometimes explored classical ideals, and even composed their own symphony. Canterbury band that released three organ-prominent albums. "The Polite Force" was EGG's second release, and was better developed musically from their debut, a style that was carried on to the subsequent "The Civil Surface". If you like that, go on and get the other two eventually. (if you don't like it, then don't bother). Fans of organ-driven progressive rock with a perfect 70's atmosphere will eat it up. Although EGG is an essential part of any progressive collection. A historical band...!

  • i was a long haired freak for 8 years then i just cut it all off 2 weeks ago, this is some of the best sounds ever made!!!

  • Not just any long-haired freak.

  • Gotta love long-haired freaks!!

  • spettacolatre....

  • Blast from the distant past. The band were featured on a strange Sat morning Open Uni type TV prog - circa late 71? It was hosted by Steve Race [of 'My Music']. The point of the programme seemed to be about how young 'pop' musicians were adopting complex, classical styles. I only saw it once; domestic vcr's didn't exist, and my memory's fading fast.

  • is there any existing footage of the band? the only live material i possess is an interesting but poor quality audio bootleg jut wondering if anyone knows of any egg videos

  • Forgot the G* lol

  • Ty Ty Ty Proflea1234 for these 2 gems which are the 1st 2 Egg Albums.

    Such crafted masterpieces.

I've listened to each at least 3 times and

am planning on getting both albums.
