Rufus isn't that entirely bad. He saved patients with geostigma in the novella and actually showed concern for them.

"In battle there is no good or evil. Just two sides with different oppinions," to paraphrase Squall from FF 8. The Shinra company was never really 'evil'. It was like most real world corporations with the exception that it also ran the government for the entire east continent. Rufus was / is a dictator, a politician. There's no good or evil. Just their version of the people's interests. Barret's reason for bombing reactors is like oil refineries, they are draining the planet's resources.

@MsMarzable Then after Meteor was destroyed he escaped from the Shinra building and was taken to Kalm to recover by the Turks. After that he was taken hostage twice, once to help build Edge and the second cause a scientist needed his resources to learn more about Geostigma. But during that time he was actually a really caring character helping other hostages that had caught the illness to survive. He also secretly funds the World Regenesis Organization cause he feels he owes it to the planet.

@raingel12 Well in the game Rufus was pretty ruthless. He believed the best way to control people and gain power was through fear rather than money which was his fathers way of doing things. In before crisis he funded the old AVALANCHE in order to remove his father from power, when found out he spend the following 4 years under house arrest. In ffvii, he tried to publicly execute Tifa and Barrett to but the blame of Meteor on them. But he also did try to take down Sephiroth but failed.

Man, i remember how much i hated rufus in the first game during the first disk and part of disk two, until he killed the (saphire?) wepon and i was like barret and saying "oh..that's pretty awsome!" but when he died i still kinda hated him.

then the movie came out. and i totally agree with Roxas2400, any guy who jumps of a 7 story building is just plain awsome!

im confused about something. Someone who's a huge fan of final fantasy said rufus was evil :? then she said reno was evil O-O Reno's not evil! She said rufus was evil so that made reno evil :? (another thing too, isn't there cat on final fantasy named rufus? i've never played the games and can only watch clips :( )

@Picklesman Well, I always wondered why he tried to keep Jenova so quiet in AC. I mean, he asked for Clouds help but wouldn't mention what he held. It was only until the last moment did he finally cast Jenova's head aside. What was that all about? Rufus isn't evil, he's just powerful, and he will always work his way to the top. That man is beyond awesome :3
