In many TV shows and movies, intelligent aliens often look a lot like humans. Is it realistic to think that if intelligent life exists in space that it will look like us? For that matter, why do we look the way we do? Using the theme of designing an alien life form, participants will explore DNA-based heredity, cellular replication, bacteria, diseases, and immune systems. Facilitated by doctoral fellows from the ASU PhD program in Biological Design, this after-school program will challenge participants to design their very own aliens based on their growing knowledge of biology. Concepts covered will include ideas from basic molecular and cellular biology, organic evolution, and microbiology.
