This always sounds godd as well as the version from both The Turtles and Mamas and Papas. Loved those groups then and still do!

@spacepatrolman Jac had already signed up Love before the Doors. Elektra was planning on launching Love as their first rock band when Arhtur Lee made the mistake of telling jac about the Doors. Jac caught them live and the Doors were given the promo push that Love was suppose to get originally. Sebastian told me that Jac knew he would lose out in the bidding war for the Spoonful. He made a smart deal for five songs from the Spoonful in return for equipment. In 66 he cashed in his chips.

@harvey1954 jac only knew folk he didnt know rock he had to ask somebody else if he should sign the doors he didnt want to make the same mistake he made with the spoonful

Never knew the story about Phil Spector and the Rascals. I can't hear them with him, however. Too poppy for their music. Holzman didn't have the money to buy the Spoonful which is why he made that deal to record 5 tunes by them for What's Shakin'. The Doors got onto Electra thanks to Arthur Lee telling Holzman to check out this other group while he was in town. The money that should have been spent on Love ended up promoting the Doors. Wise move given the lack of a work ethic
in Love.

@harvey1954 he also tried to sign the rascals but didnt get them he kicked a fire hydrant and hurt his toe /columbia records gave the rascals the same runaround they gave the byrds maybe we will let you make an album if you get a couple of hit 45s atlantic said you can make your own album right away [they needed a white rock group like the beatles] so they went with them/ electra lost the lovin spoonful they didnt want to make another mistake with the doors

Love, love LOVE this tune! It was my favorite of all the Spoon songs, even their number 1 bodacious hits... if I hadn't bought their album, would have never known about it since it got next to NO airplay back in the 60's. GROOVY!

At one point Phil Spector was courting the Lovin' Spoonful. I think they did this one to get his attention. Another Joe Butler performance.

It sounds weird to say this, but this song is like an orgasm in my ears.
