WOW! I have installed thousands of feet of tile and just watched a couple of these "Expert Village" videos and they all give people really bad advice. If you would like to learn about tiling buy yourself a copy of the National Tile Contractors Association handbook and it will tell you how the pros do it. This guy needs to get himself a copy before showing people how to do a tile install that is sure to fail.

You were using thinset, not mastic. There is a difference. Another thing, you do need to press the tiles into the thinset. Maybe you should mix up a batch of cookies instead of trying to tile something.
