  • how often do the gas struts go out? and how much are the gas struts? the struts are the main components of this rack and they are the reason why it is so effortless to load.

  • @nipzilla We have never heard of a Hullavator gas strut failure. Not to say gas struts can't fail, I had to replace the rear hatch struts on a 1989 Honda CRX once.

  • To mrvigh,

The Hullavator is actually quite elegant in its form and function. I don't know too many kayakers who are lazy but I do know that the Hullavator helps a lot of people who have tall vehicles and heavy or bulky boats. For situations like these the Hullavator serves people well. A second kayak can be added by simply using the proper length bars to allow two Hullavators side by side. You're right about the Hull-a-Port is an excellent alternative if you don't need lift assist.

  • Or they made it for people with backs that can't do the lifting or maybe with bad knees that can't balance up on their car tire to get to where the straps have to go to lock it up.

  • This is amazing. For those who assume it is for lazy people... it just shows ignorance...., hopefully you will never get old, have a bad back, or knees, or just plain don't have the strength to lift a boat or a kayak for whatever reason. Like the lady said..... better than staying in your rocking chair.... now that's being lazy.

  • I don't like those pins smashing into the car windows. Otherwise it's awesome!

  • i think thats a very good thing ..i like to kayak but have a bad back and it is hard to get my kayak on the roof.

  • The Hullavator is a great rack. They're not for lazy people, but this short older woman loves the fact that with this lift system, I can load my own boat once the system is installed on my Jeep Grand Cherokee. Upper body strength doesn't always stay with us, but these racks sure help us to keep getting out and about and not sitting in a rocker wishin' we could go 'yakin'.

  • Not for lazy people, but it could be. In my case, my tandem kayak weighs 90 lbs and it is a PITA to get it on top of my Chevy Astro van.

  • OK, you have convinced me. Should work great with tall vehicles, true. Looked complicated at first sight, but a great product, I admit. -)

  • very good love it i actualy bought 2 for two hobie outfitters and to all you damn queers callin me lazy is because i have a mega bad shoulder and i cant lift and i have a lifted truck so screw you budy the hullavator is awsome
