Truly powerful. Jeremy is a captivating on screen presence and the journey that James goes through to see him trying to adapt and come to grips with letting go and settling down, very much like what FootballFan428 commented. This film was a trip for me and superbly taught, intense and a truly, truly deserved Oscar Nom for Renner (as well as 6 Oscar wins)

I couldn't help but smile when I saw this scene.

@shinichigojir12 That is very true.

Cereal is bad for kids and adults. There's no nutritional value in it. The only point of the scene is to show how brainwashed and institutionalized this guy is.

This is how I feel every time I go to the grocery store.

Go for the Oatmeal to go bars behind you... there delish!

@FootballFan428 Your half right but that scene has absolutly nothing to do with the "junk" or "joys" we have and others dont, Its simply about his incapability to adapt to the lifestyle that isn't war

The point of this scene is how he can't live a normal lifestyle and do things normal people do. Like buying groceries, having a normal job with good pay, raising children, etc. It shows that he is a war junkie and is addicted to the feeling of hunting or being the hunted. Do you think when you are in the jungles and deserts where people are trying to kill you and fight for your life, and come back home and do things like going to the movies?

The point of this scene is to show that james is out of his element. he is used to making the choice between two wires, and he his obviously overwhelmed by looking at all the choices of cereal. He lives his life by the do or die mentality that was discussed in the scene right before this when him and jt were in the vehicle. Life or death, two choices. and here, there is too many choices.
He went from "red wire or green wire?", to "Cheerios or Honey Nut Cheerios?".

I think the point of the scene is to show how lucky we are to have what we have not only having to readjust. Latter in the movie when he is home, he tells his wife a story of how a man was giving out candy, that he new the kids would want. He then blows himself up killing them and the people around.The store has hundreds of useless junk while the people in war torn countries are poor, dont have the joys we have, and might not even know what breakfast cereal is... Im glad this was in the movie...
