A group of human rights activists and labor organizers organized a protest last Tuesday September 8 at Union Station, to denounce the campaign "Discover Colombia Through Its Heart" as an attempt to promote the pending U.S.- Colombia Free Trade Agreement and to hide the crimes committed by the Colombia's government led by president Alvaro Uribe, accused of violation of human rights, the killing of labor unionists and Indigenous civilians, forced displacement of over 4 million Colombians -mostly Afro descendants and Indigenous peoples- and links to paramilitary and drug trafficking groups.

  • Its very sad to see how little knowledge ppl has about what is happening around in the world, as with the Awa indians,,

We can sit in our living rooms and enjoy our coffee, and have no idea or if we care where and how this coffee comes..

  • Focusing on the problems is not showing colombia's bad side it's actually showing how much pride people have on defending their rights and their land.

Trying to sugar coat the reality with images of colpatria or nice residences in the "Rosales" will not make the true go away.

I've been to Colombia and I know how beautiful the country and the people are, and I certainly admire the men who speak out to defend their children and their right for a better future.

  • We need ANOTHER pro-labor protest against the FASCIST government of Colombia and the US which enables them.

  • I sure those people are more aware of Colombian politics and foreigh politics than than you are. there is another side of the story, where indigenous and afro-colombian people are opressed and killed on the daily basis for fighting the right to survive. if you read Colombian history from the colonization till now you will understand where are we coming...from.

  • This leftist people always complaining about everything . I love Colombia !!!!!! ignorant protesters .

  • ok, here is what a got to say: can`t wait to also finish university in Canada to go back to ma beautiful country Colombia and contribute in its growth and development. I like the hearths campaign a lot because it brings awareness of our country. Then people we`ll go home, google Colombia...read about it, educate themselves about the situation and hopefully do something about it. :-)

  • as a young colombian american i think its esential to show the good immage of colombia because we are a country that has so much to give and so much potential. i cant wait to finish university and go back to were i belong and that is colombia. were i live the good life =)
