Inspired by troppochook's beautiful video.
This is a tribute to two beautiful women; one recently diagnosed with ALS (Lou Gehrig's), the other a physically disabled recovering addict.
Both these women face each day with what, to me, look like insurmountable odds. Constant pain reminds them of their mortality. Physical disabilities limit their mobility. Societal barriers expose their dependence. Yet, both rise to each new day, hold steadfast to their walker or cane, and face the sunrise with determination, laughter and hope.
These two rays of sunshine touch my life and warm my soul. They constantly inspire and I am truly blessed by their companionship.
I dream that I have captured their spirit in this humble contribution; that the essence of their resilience will motivate others to wake to each day, face the sun, absorb the energy of her rays and pass on that beating life force to others.
"Carpe Diem! Seize the day. Make your lives extraordinary."
Dead Poet's Society
My friend with ASL passed away on April 7 2010. She had remained a source of inspiration throughout her illness and she will always be.
