This is a re-recording of a piece I wrote some years ago which is called "Elegy", which I had recorded previously. This one was done at the request of Robert England, a fine guitar builder from Toronto, Ontario, who also made the guitar used for this video. There are a few differences between the earlier video and this one, which I will let you discern for yourselves.

"Elegy" is the third movement of my suite, "Celtic Images". It evokes a windy autumn day in the Burren Region of County Clare, a place which is loaded with standing stones and various other megalithic structures including dolmens, cairns, wedge tombs, raths and ring forts. Videos of the other three movements are on this site as well.

TECH DATA:
Recorded on a Robert England classical guitar, using a Flip UltraHD camcorder. Sound file is directly from the camcorder, no additional processing done.

  • Beautiful !!!!

But where are your Pardo-guitar ???

    Smile from Anne Mari

  • @bch1234 Hello Anne Mari! This video is made at the request of the man who built this guitar, so of course I used his creation. The Raya Pardo will make its video debut once I decide what type of strings work best on it (any advices)?

  • Very nice :-)

  • @sguitar: thank you, comments from colleagues who also share their performances on YT are very good to get.

  • David,

Thanks so much for recording this for me, and dedicating it to me. This is deep, powerful music. I get chills and sighs listening to it. How can a bald guy have this much feeling? Don't you need to have long hair and be half starved to be this intense? Just kidding :-). It's very gratifying that a guitar I made can make such beautiful sounds. Your playing inspires me. I can't say which version I like better, they are both great! Thanks again.

    Robert

  • @rsengland: "long hair" is in the long past, although there is a photo of me c. 1975 with shoulder-length hair. Sad to say, I have never remotely looked undernourished...... Thank you for your contribution (e.g., the guitar!) to this performance.

  • David,...this is beautfiul. Just beautiful! I love it! ;)

  • @spronev: This version is recorded at about 1/2 the distance the first one was made. So that certainly makes a difference. Also, Robert's guitar has more volume (at 5 months) than the other one has at 28 years. But to be fair, the Brandt has a far wider tonal palette, which took many years of hard playing to burnish in. That quality doesn't translate very well to a video played over a computer system, however.

  • I also like both versions - they are different. This one sounds more clear and the last one sounds softer.
