Peter Jelosits, boy soprano; Johann Sebastian Bach: Gottlob! Nun geht das Jahr zu Ende, BWV 27.

Gottlob! Nun geht das Jahr zu Ende,
Das neue rucket schon heran.
Gedenke, meine Seele, dran,
Wieviel dir deines Gottes Hande
Im alten Jahr Guts getan!
Stimm ihm ein frohes Danklied an;
So wird er ferner dein gedenken
Und mehr zum neuen Jahre schenken.

Rejoice: the passing year is ended,
The New Year comes on us apace.
Forget not, O my soul, His Grace
So oft with open hand extended,
And all His gifts throughout the year.
So sing a joyful Anthem clear,
That God will ever safe defend us,
And more unsparing favors send us

  • Such a sweet voice! What ever happened to him?

  • Just Google Peter Jelosits. There is a biography and a current picture. He now is a tenor.

  • Três bien chanté, chapeau!

  • this is just amazing!

  • Herbert Böck became a choral conductor.

  • No, it's not. But I know the feeling.

Compare to BWV 30 (the aria is called "Eilt ihr Stunden"), and you'll hear that it is the same voice as this one, i.e. Herbert Böck.

  • This isn't Peter Jelosits??

All unidentified boy soloists are beginning to sound like Jelosits to my ears! ;)

  • Thank you very much for identifying this otherwise unknown Vienna Choir Boy soloist. There were several anonymous Vienna boys who contributed solos in the early releases of this set before Peter took over. We owe a great deal of gratitude to them for proving once and for all that boys are capable of singing Bach solos, and doing it superbly.

If you know the names of some of the others it would be nice to know!

  • The soloist here is Herbert Böck (who can also be heard on BWV 30 in the same series).

  • is it an harnoncourt recording?

  • Outstanding! :D
