All This and Rabbit Stew is a one-reel animated cartoon short subject in the Merrie Melodies series, produced in Technicolor and released to theatres on September 20, 1941 by Warner Bros. Pictures and The Vitaphone Corporation. It was produced by Leon Schlesinger and directed by an uncredited Tex Avery, with musical supervision by Carl W. Stalling and voices by Mel Blanc.

All This and Rabbit Stew features Bugs Bunny being hunted by a slow-witted Black hunter

The cartoon's central gag sequence, involving the hunter constantly ending up on the wrong side of a rolling log hanging over a cliff, was repurposed for Bob Clampett's 1946 Looney Tunes short The Big Snooze. For that film, the animation of the Black hunter was redrawn into animation of Elmer Fudd.

Due to the film's racial stereotyping, All This and Rabbit Stew has not been seen on television since 1968, and is one of the "Censored Eleven" group of banned Looney Tunes/Merrie Melodies shorts.

  • I'm black & I found this funny. I don't live in the past!

  • I'm black, but I certainly don't have a chip on my shoulder. This was made in the 40s when racism was alive. Who cares about it being racist in 2011 going on 2012.

  • Im white and I find this funny... What? the blacks can say it but I cant? >: |

  • I'm black, but.... wait... no I'm not..

  • I didnt watch the entire thing but I never saw bugs react to the guy's blackness. I mean, is elmer some sort of insult against white people? Maybe the creators had bad intentions but today what I see is a not so smart fudd-like character (who is black) getting pranked by bugs.

  • I Found Earl Sweatshirt lol

  • Ohhh, a look into a GOP candidate's mind....

  • All races get ragged on.. ITS LIFE.. Everybody needs to quit being so senseitvie, and move on with life.. Thats what is wrong with this country now cant get out of the past...

  • Shendue, thank you for the back story on this. The only other similar Warner Bros cartoon I've seen was "Coal Black and de Sebbin Dwarves". I was told it was made for Black audiences in the segregated movie theatres of the south, and also as a slap at Disney, who Chuck Jones did not like. Possibly could this have been made for that market also? Walter Lantz, of Woody Woodpecker fame, made at least one very hateful cartoon that I feel was surely made for racist whites.

  • @sammolloy1: Actually, the episode was re-made with Elmer Fudd as a form of censorship, so it's all the opposite way.

  • @E100Omega123

It's actually a PPC from MechAssault.
