Back in Fall 1970 Tim Conay did this very same character on his own show, The Tim Conway Comedy Hour. However then he was called Mr. Voopeedo.

Yeah, I agree wtih the other comment in that they won't listen. All they want to produce these days are shows that don't require writers that actually have talent and imagination, or require writers at all (eg. "reality tv") So they make stuff that's cheap to produce, and is aimed at people in the age group that still hasn't learned that you can't buy happiness, so it's all driven by advertising much more than it was back in Carol's day.
It's all about a quick buck, at the expense of quality.
