  • I agree with this completely. American martial arts films (and action films in general) don't let you see the actors fighting, and if they do it's no where near as awesome as when Jackie Chan does it. That's cuz Jackie knows what he's doing and the American people don't, they're just focused on it looks "cool"

  • Listen to him future filmakers! Shaky cameras is lame!

  • Michael Bay should watch this 100 times , maybe he'll pick up a thing or two about basic filmaking. I can't tell which robot is hitting which other robot, Mike!

Also, that they are big shapeless blobs of metal doesn't help, so have your design team take an art class and learn basic visual design- you know, sillouette, dominance/focal point, etc.

  • We recently made a fight video (Extraction) and for our fight scene we did it half American half Asian. We kept the shots where there was fluid action in one shot but for the more aggressive impacts we did a separate cut and spliced it together. It's our first martial arts on video video but we're decently happy with it.

  • jacki is my HERO!

  • I love Jackie Chan

  • Jackie Chan is AWESOME

  • another thing Ive noticed is how some fight/action (mainly fight) scenes seem to take place in the dark when (1) its not even night time and (2) it might be under something or indoors, but just two steps away there is some clear uninterrupted lighting. I mean shaking is one thing but to darken the whole scene to the point you're in the cinema straining your eyes?lol And it didnt even have anything to do with a surprise attack or something like that.

  • I try to record almost EVERYTHING on a tripod. Then if a little shake is needed, it's done in post.

  • I totally know what he means by editing. I use to edit my films the american way and it looked too choppy. In this clip Jackie says that your eyes can't catch it that fast when you edit it that way. I started editing the way that Jackie and most HK directors do, and the shots looks way smoother.

  • point and case... Bourne Trilogy...BOOM BOOM POW...end fight.lol
