I am just beginning a Marathon training program. I'm doing two 1 mile treadmill runs per week to try and get my 1 mile time down to 6 minutes. As of this upload, my personal best is 7:03. I started three weeks ago with a 1 mile time of 9:50. Once I get my 1 mile time to where I want it, I'll work on keeping that pace for extended distances.

I'm also doing two 3 mile runs per week and one long run. My 3 mile runs are at a 5K pace and my long runs are about 2 minutes per mile slower than my 5K pace.

  • Thanks!

When you say speed run, what do you mean?

I have problems with pain in my left shin after about 2 laps.

  • If you haven't already, you might want to go to a real running store and get fitted for some good running shoes. Nike and Adidas don't count. I use a pair of Mizuno running shoes and they are great.

  • I havent got fitted for them but Im using a pair of asic 2140's.. I figured since I leave in Jan. for training, and they make me get a new pair there... I shouldnt get new shoes.. but I may go get fitted for some. How much were your shoes?

  • My shoes were $100. I got them last year. Well worth it too. I had some knee problems from running with bad shoes, but I haven't had any problems since I got the new ones.

  • @performazcrx I rarely endorse a shoe, but I can tell the difference with the Mizuno running shoes.

  • 10 mph for 6 mins is a mile on the treadmill

  • @nicholasproductions1 I run indoors except maybe a couple days a year, but then again, I live in Phoenix where this time of year it is already in the 80's when the sun comes up!

  • Your one mile marathon training will come back to bite you on the ass when race day comes and you realize you have 25.2 more

  • @Thompson243

I'm 5 years old, and my PR is 0:59

  • All the best. Your hard work will pay off, just wait and see.

  • My new PR is 6:19

  • I'm 13 and my PR is 6:26.
