@mtu0905 Usually, they do it because performing two large works is very tiring, especially having to do it four nights a week.

those are old. Dicterow doesn't play all the concerts. The cello and viola section are def ny phil. I don't look at violins haha

I wondered about that too. Is that just a NYP thing? I haven't noticed it w the orchs I go see or others..

I'm not agree with you.watch perlman's concert with newyork philharmonic on youtube,he plays mendelssohn concerto and Dicterow is behind him.

How come there weren't any principals there? I mean ... it looks like Sherry Sylar is at first oboe and either Renee Siebert or that other lady is it first flute. No Cynthia Phelps, either.

Usually only few, if any, principals join the orchestra in performing concertos. I have no clue why that is. But if you recognize members of the NY phil, next time when you go to a concert in which a concerto is featured, you are likely to find a few principals in tux, not on stage, but in the first 2 left boxes of second tier (sometimes Zarin Mehta and other officials as well). Then they return to stage during the second half of the concert, which is usually a symphony... again, dunno why...

Well, i don't have the entire concerto of course...
like you said, i really wasn't supposed to record anything, but i always do that on occasions.
But i do have another longer clip of them rehearsing on this concerto.
The file was too large and i was too lazy to reformat it, but maybe i will do it soon
and sorry, i regret that i didn't record any of the prokofiev fifth...
