Mr. Crabtree, an elderly man who is out of work, is about to be evicted from his apartment. Why? He is far behind on his rent because what money he has is going to a private sanitarium to pay for his daughter's care. He is appalled at the idea of placing his daughter in a state institution and is desperately seeking work.

When a mysterious lady appears at his apartment offering him a job, he jumps at the opportunity. But exactly what is the nature of this opportunity?
