Keep some rainwater which is hot and put it in a sealed plastic bottle and then measure the same amount in a dish or a plastic bag after 6 hours, 12 hours, 18 hours, a day, two days, 5 days. That will tell us what this stuff is. Maybe you have done this already?

@EnviroReporter I understand your concern, but I think you are seeing spikes in natural radiation, from Radon and Cosmic Rays...
There are 1000s of members of the Japanese public who now own dosimeters, they do testing independently of the government, one of these independent groups is Safecast. They tested the West Cost of the US and found no contamination.
e.g. maps dot Safecast dot org & htt p://gamma.ta r.b z/ maps/ main/

how is it that the US,and ISRAEL,BRITIAN are all willing to go to WAR with Iran, BECAUSE THEY HAVE A NUCLEAR REACTOR, AND WANT NUCLEAR POWER? like the rest of the world, THEY DON;T HAVE THE CAPABILITIES TO CREATE A BOMB, but yet, EVERY GOV ON THE PLANET IS WILLING TO WATCH JAPAN AND TEPCO, MISMANAGE, LIE , DECEIVE, AND CORRUPT SINCE THE BEGINNING OF the worst nuclear disaster EVER, they are contaminating the PLANET, and not one country is saying a GODDAMN THING? WHAT IS WRONG WITH ALL OF US?
I can't see what units the device uses?
What units does it measure in?

@Markous420 - CPM - Counts Per Minute.

Why cant this be natural Radon washout?
Greenfield, M.B., Iwata, A., Ito, N., Ishigaki, M. & Kubo, K. 2006. Intense γ radiation from radon progeny accreted in/on rain during and following thunderstorms. In , p.Bulletin of the American Physical Society, Nashville, Tennessee.
Have you used gamma ray spectrometer?
@Antiproton used a gamma ray spectrometer to show the radiation is from Lead-214 and Bistmith-214, that it's radon.

@Diamonddavej - It isn't radon "washout" or progeny or daughters. This wasn't a thunderstorm and two other storms tested right at background meaning no radon progeny at all. If you will kick with $17,000, I will buy a gamma ray spectrometer. But save your money and read "Seasons Readings" at EnviroReporter [dot] com and you'll understand this better. Antiproton didn't test the same rain meaning what he/it found doesn't apply here though his narcissistic personality disorder is amusing to watch.

I see you took readings on a plane. I suggest the elevated radiation levels at high altitude are due to cosmic rays? Rather then Fukushima. I notice the levels (12.38 µSv/h) are lower then usual for a plane at 38,000 feet.
"It can reach a maximum of 19 µSv/h in times of minimal solar activities" - Blettner
Blettner et al., 1998. Occupational cancer risk in pilots and flight attendants: current epidemiological knowledge. Radiation and environmental biophysics 37(2), 75–80.

@Diamonddavej - You are not reading the Inspector correctly - that is actually 12,388 counts in a 10-minute period. We detected 1,035 Counts Per Minute at 28,000 feet when the manufacturer of the Inspector says we should be detecting 200 CPM. That means the radiation we detected was over 5 times higher than it should be at that altitude. I'm pretty disappointed that you can cite studies but not read a radiation monitor correctly. Read our post "Seasons Readings" before embarrassing yourself.
