Sgt. Belcore arrives to present flowers to the fairest of the village ladies, who is, unsurprisingly, Adina, proprietor of the local bar.
BELCORE: Like the tale of handsome Paris,
whose happy duty was to judge beauty,
I'll not fail to choose the fairest
and award her this sumptuous bouquet.
Paris only gave an apple
(you can buy six for a lira)
but these flowers were considerably dearer
which reflects my generous side
and shows how I'd provide for a bride.
ADINA: He's so generous and so modest!
LADIES: And so dashing. That's for certain. Such charisma.
NEMORINO: Conceited show-off.
BELCORE: I can tell by her expression
I have made a big impression
Not surprising I disarm her
I'm a spender...as well as a charmer!
In this uniform I'm wearing,
ladies pursue me...come flocking to me.
With my military bearing...
they can't stop staring and ogling me!
ADINA: What a charmer!
GIANNETTA: And so modest!
BELCORE: With my military bearing...
Women know what a lover I'd be.
NEMORINO: I can't compete.
BELCORE: In this uniform I'm wearing,..
they can't stop staring and ogling me!
