Employees at Jones Soda Company celebrated Earth day by going off the electrical grid and power at its Seattle headquarters. Employees rode stationary bikes to generate energy to provide power for office computers and other equipment. (April 22)
Well, is a gimmick for Earth Day mostly, but a few bikes can power at least a small office. Obviously it takes real long term solutions to really get off the grid.
There are much better and more effective ways to generate power than riding stationary bicycles -- and that can operate 365 days a year. Perhaps they should concentrate on those alternative technologies (solar, wind, geothermal, piezo-electric, etc) rather than riding their bikes to power a couple of computers for one day out of the year.
Well, its beats going to the GYM at lease the power is use, and not just wasted.
