You probably don't know any better, because there was no publicity for the positive elements of the new society being built there, the social solidarity, the co-operatives, the gender equality, the comprehensive welfare state and the support given to education, art, and sport.

No wonder so many former GDR residents regret what they lost and the Left Party continues to enjoy widespread support.

@59Skott as without this bribe there was little chance for communists will not take power in whole europe and world wouldnt be in that shit it is now. Sadly one of the most hypocritical assholes came to power in USSR after Stalins death and did a wonderful job in compromising leftist movement. To sum up, DDR shouldnt have been an own nation, it'd be a lot better if you stayed united and developed the way you wanted, well, maybe except nazi revanchism. @59Skott Stalin was for neutral united Germany from the beginning, yanks were not going to leave it, as you may see until now, you are under american occupation for 66 years. USSR placed its troops in Germany mostly for sake of defending itself, rather than occupying, but you shouldnt believe it, though you must have heard of plans of democratic nuclear bombings of USSR after WW2. While USA that made good money on this war credited western european economies for their ban of communists...

I have been named "Stasimann" and "Stupid Bumkin" by many Wessis. They are korrupt, kapitalist, self-centered, selfisch, and arrogant. They also name me "Roter Preuss". Make no sense. I believe DDR should be its own nation, independent, without a "Schandemauer" or Stasi. We did not want reunification! We wanted nation free of US, Russia. Es lebe die DDR!!!
