John Piper: Does a women submit to abuse?

Now that's one kind of situation. Just a word on the other kind. If it's not requiring her to sin but simply hurting her, then I think she endures verbal abuse for a season, and she endures perhaps being smacked one night, and then she seeks help from the church.

this man clearly does not know what he is talking about. "it would be sweet to me if I could enjoy your leadership...?" to tell a woman to endure verbal and physical abuse for a season is moronic. The church will not be there to protect her and her children. do not listen to the advice of this man. if you are being abused, get away as fast as you can and protect yourself. Shame on this man for speaking on a subject he knows absolutely nothing about.

why are these guys so big into the wife submitting to her husband(a much harder job than whats asked of the men) but so small on the loveing your wife like Jesus loved the church. If he's suppose to be the leader wouldn't you expect more from him than the wife, yet it always seems to be that the husband is leader in name and all the benefits and ego building and yet the wife is the leader in deed but without an ounce of acknowlegement. Remember Jesus said the leader must act like the servant.

if this weren't so serious it would be funny its so pathetic. Its amazing that this guy could get such a simple question so tragically wrong and yet he's got so many under his spell.  My 10 year old could do better. For any women out their who are tempted to take this advice, ask yourself based on the character of Jesus, could you honestly see him instructing you to do this(question mark broken). I couldn't be more sure about anything that to stay in this situation will allow evil to win.

The doctrine that woman must submit to their husbands is degrading, evil, against gender equality, foolish, and obviously sexist. Wake up people, don't believe something just because a book says to.

I am a Christian, but I have little to no respect for John Piper's teachings. What he is doing/saying in the name of "Christianity" is wrong, hurtful, degrading, and destructive. It makes me so angry. When will people wake up and take this man away from the pulpit? He seriously has some very screwed up theology and it pains me to see what he is doing to the minds of Christ followers.

There are lots of cases where preachers beat their wives and still in good standing with the church.They encourage the women to stay with their abusers, who are also members of the church and never disciplined. Those are what I call scumbag preachers.
