When I went and saw them live back in the 70's Peter got up in front of everyone and said in a very annoyed voice that a lot of people were saying that the song was about getting high and that was a bunch of crap. He then said that the song is about growing up and loosing ones innocence and that weed heads should get another song as their anthem, then to the crowd of applauding people they proceeded to play the song.

There is ... but tonight (2 April 2013) I have been able to listen to this song for the first time in nearly 30 years without crying because I bought a crystal dragon today who has become MY Puff the Magic Dragon - and Puff will have his lifelong friend :) I've bought my little nephew one as well, and I'm now going to teach him this song, which I refused to let anyone do prior to this because it was so sad.
