Two big things naturally come up when bringing up Chinatown Wars on PSP, the first being how it looks. On PSP, there's an obvious upscaling in the graphics, but there are also little details that help it stand out. Lighting and particle effects make the miniature Liberty City look a little more alive, and in general, the game is less "outlined" and styled like a comic book. That look is left in for the cut-scenes, which are also in a higher resolution, but not necessarily improved artistically. If anything, they reinforce that Huang is definitely not the prettiest GTA protagonist.

The second issue is the touch controls, or what used to be them. Chinatown Wars on DS was unique because of its use of the system's touch screen, but on PSP, most of what you did with a stylus is now done with the analog nub along with the L and R buttons. This could be seen as a bad thing, but it's not -- especially with some activities. Paying tolls on the bridges is now as easy as in GTA IV: just slowly drive through instead of having to touch the screen to toss coins into the tray. Tattoos are also easier to pull off, using circles and semicircles on the analog nub a la tagging in Jet Grind Radio. These activities didn't really make nor break Chinatown Wars in the first place -- they simply add unique bits of extra playability to the GTA formula. And sometimes, the lack of a second screen in this version is just plain better. Case in point: The new on-the-fly weapon switching system that arranges your arsenal in an easy-to-use ring of icons.
