Giovanni Battista Pergolesi. Born 1710. Died at the age of 26 from Tuberculosis.

This is from the definitive version of his Stabat Mater, conducted by Claudio Abbado.
Performed by the London Symphony Orchestra in 1985, with Margaret Marshall, Soprano and Lucia Valentini Terrani, Contralto. There has quite simply never been a better recording of this most stupendous work.
