Yes that may be true...but at the same time, oil companies still have a responsibility just as others do...and that responsibility must include the same practices that they would use in their own countries. ie: oil spills do not equal burning the land so that once fertile farmland is converted into meters thick of oil crust...or pipelines that have been badly constructed. You have a point--It's just so glaringly apparent that these things would not be allowed to happen in the US for ex.
That's an interesting comment considering many of these "oil communities" rely very heavily upon the government and militarization to exact their goals.
Jimmah and you are making sense why others don't... If we dont want Oil Companies to drill our oils then we should leave the oil there untapped and see how the excess will affect out wellbeing. The problem is not the oil companies...it's not even the govt...it's our so-called politicians. Do they ever discuss Niger-Delta issues in Senate? What re the South-south senators doin to ensure improvement in Niger-delta?

Shell = vile murdering scum who support tyranical government.
I hope the people responsible are hanged by the balls.
Rape a country and it's land then charge me £50 for filling up. They ought to be jailed first then hanged by the balls.

Oil companies are only their at their host goverments requests. You cannot blame shell etc for Nigeria's woes.
The goverment invites the oil companies into their contry to extract their oil.
