I tried 115 x 45 using your method.

11 x 4 = 44

Average of 11 and 4 = 7 (after dropping the fraction of 1/2)

44 + 7 = 51

115 x 45 =5175 (answer ends in 75 as 11 is odd and 4 is even)

You can multiply ANY 2 no. ending in 5 Answer will end in 25 or 75 - if BOTH of the other digits(other than 5s) are EVEN or BOTH are ODD the answer ends in 25; if ONE of them is EVEN/ODD the answer ends in 75. Ex : 65 x 95 =? (6 is EVEN & 9 is ODD - answer ends in 75) Solution : Find 6x9 = 54 Add the average of 6&9 = 7(discard the fraction 1/2) 54+7=61 65x95 = 6175 Ex: 45x85 =?(4&8 are EVEN - answer ends in 25) 4x8=32 Avg. of 4&8 =6 32+6=38 45x85=3825 Find :75x55=? (7&5 are both odd)

This is a cool trick and actually works with any multiplication of two numbers with same tens and ones of which add up to ten. Like 64x66 = 4224, because 6x7 = 42 and 4x6 = 24
