Eric Fenn (San Francisco, USA)
ERIC FENN, a San Francisco native, has been contributing to the dance community for over twenty years. Fenn's love for teaching and movement stem from his roots in martial arts. He was the founding artistic director of San Francisco Culture Shock, an outreach program that focuses on Hip Hop as a means to inspire the Bay Area's youth. Over the years, Fenn has made a name as a choreographer and instructor both nationally and internationally. Currently he is the Artistic Director of Loose Change Dance, a company he co-founded 10 years ago whose numerous sold out performances have proven them to be a San Francisco favorite. Known for pushing the boundaries of dance, Fenn's choreography has paved the way for a unique style of dance known as URBAN CONTEMPORARY (for which Fenn is the founder). Urban Contemporary Dance draws upon elements of both Urban and Modern dance. This exciting combination is used to create compelling and universal stories that move audiences. Fenn's work as the key artistic choreographer of Human Nature, the troupe's second full length production at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center, has been written up as "...captivating from beginning to end."

Annie Rosenthal Parr (San Francisco, USA)
Annie Rosenthal Parr is a dancer, choreographer, teacher and proprietress of RoCo Dance and Fitness, Mill Valley. She received a BFA in Dance from NYUS's Tisch School of the Arts and upon leaving New York, worked with Della Davidson Dance Co. Margaret Jenkins Dance Co. and David Dorfman.
Annie founded the contemporary dance studio, RoCo in 1993. She and 25 of the Bay Area's finest instructors teach and choreograph for children and adults. RoCo produces energetically packed student performances that showcase hundreds of dancers to thousands of people bi-annually.
Annie has been producing and choreographing for professional venues since '96. In addition to producing her own evenings in San Francisco and Marin, her dances have been selected for many Northern California dance festivals and she has been the recipient of numerous grants for her work.
Annie has been invited to teach consecutive years for the S.F. Summer Dance Festival, Marin Ballet, Marin Dance Theater summer dance programs , and West Wave Dance Festivals. Annie's technical and expressive style provides students with diverse movement challenges and aesthetics. Her class explores articulation, speed, transitions, recovery, inversion, air, phrasing, efficiency, floor work, and musicality. Annie's approach to teaching emphasizes clarity and pace and supports individual physical range, personal expressiveness and interpretation.

Class description

The Floor:
This class will explore the many ways of moving efficiently in and out of the ground. Annie Rosenthal Parr has developed a progression of exercises to prepare the dancer for new ways of connecting to the floor. The class begins on the floor: sliding, spinning, rolling, and pushing from one body part to the next. Those exercises are then applied to build choreography that takes you out of the floor and then back into the floor. Each day new phrases are introduced to create a seamless combination of movement that is athletic, kinetic innovative and stylish.

Partnering/Contact:
Eric and Annie will teach the fundamentals contemporary contact. Learn to lift and partner with ease and safety regardless of size or gender. Explore the possibilities of using one another to invent new material.

Urban Contemporary (choreography)
To tie it all together, this dance class will concentrate on teaching choreography by Eric Fenn with the influence of Annie Rosenthal Parr. Eric's aesthetic juxtaposes big sweeping athletic movement with pulsating and articulate rhythms. Phrases from the other classes will be integrated into additional phrases from this class to build a combination that accumulates daily.
