I went to school with him for 7 years, I respect his intelligence although I definitely don't respect him as a person.

Not if your modest in your heart, which he's not, so he's arrogant by nature really, very hard to fight that especially with a communication disorder.

Whilst that was cold and must be horrible for his parents to watch he is correct.
I myself have aspergers (but to nowhere near that extent) and just like anyone else if I make a mistake socially and I pick up on it I'll try not to do it again.
Have you also considered he's just an overachiever? I'm sure if people told you day in day out you were good at maths/science you'd come to believe it too.
