  • @billebrock That's actually not a handrail but a decorative banister. It is placed high and hard to grasp onto gracefully. Usually in this kind of stage setting there is a substantial lower banister placed unobtrusively that can be easily grasped if the performer loses his or her balance. Coming down that kind of decorative staircase with bright lights flooding your eyes can be distracting and disorienting in a setting that to the audience looks elegant and sophisticated.

  • Can't believe they had her singing descending a stairway with no way to grab a handrail. So disorienting to the performer and so dangerous. Kay, of course, was the equal of any situation and had the enormous gift of making even the most familiar song seem fresh, new and exciting.
