@jay11481 well, if you love his standup you should listen to everything Bill Hicks ever did for he's the one Leary stole his routine from, both in spirit and in word
-
english tried to conquer us but we ran them off U.S.A U.S.A number 1

@skiamakhos Yeah I know but what I really love most of the song is Leary's take on the nostalgia that most Irish Americans felt about leaving their homeland due to Cromwell's actions, the British government, and the famines. Leary makes fun of this by virtually saying, "It was 150 years ago when we arrived in large numbers, Get over it!"

@alexiaNBC technically Ireland wasn't conquered by Cromwell, he just came over to persecute Catholics. It had been part of the UK monarchy's territory since Pope Adrian IV gave King Henry II the kingdom of Ireland on the basis that nobody else was overall king there nor had been since St Patrick cursed the high kings - but things took a radically downward turn for the Irish after the Reformation. Cromwell was a religious fanatic who hated Catholics.

Dennis leary is just amazing I love his show ,his stand up, and these songs he makes its just perfection
-
What I love about the song is how Leary makes fun of the Irish's undying hatred of the Cromwell's conquest of Ireland

This clip would be a million times better if I could hear him singing above a mumbling whisper.
He's very proud of his Irishness. This is just a laugh. I'm Irish and I find it fucking hilarious.
