I do the neutral thing in my '91 VW Cabriolet too, and get 37 MPG

I use the technique where I switch my car into neutral when coming upon a signal light or heavy traffic. This allows me to glide much farther without slowing down. Also my car can idle at about 500 rpm during this time. You will get the same gas mpg as if your car was sitting still in neutral. I average 29 mpg in my 2002 Elantra with about 60% traffic or city driving.

yup a big difference can be made. i've talked to a solar company down here in SoCal and my 08 Prius Touring should be going solar soon

Excellent! I used to only get 22mpg in my Corolla when everyone used to drive fast. Now with the gas crises here (it's almost $4 per gallon here where I live), everyone is driving slower and half of the people are accelerating slower. And when a stop light ahead is red, I take my foot off the gas and just coast to the light. I'm now observing 36mpg average. So yeah, driving habits are a big part! If you google "hypermilers," there are whole websites dedicated to this. Record is 250mpg solarprius
psi at 46 all around, practive with the pedals, at 52MPG average for a couple years now. pretty good considering gas in california's got ethanol in it

yeah, i'm not sacrificing handling for 2 mpg, so i'll leave my tires at recommended psi.
