@Brennansdad Astonishing? You never ran a TS into a Fender or VOX before?
yep the MAZ is great if you can get over the harshness....
-
yep just like sticking distortion boxes in front of any clean amp, like what people had been doing for years with black/silver Face Fenders.Nothing new here except the name.
This is somehow surprising?
A BF Showman or HI-WATT with the Plexi-Tube produces the same result.

I can't speak for all DR.Z amps, but the Maz 38 is quite versatile. 4 x el84 tubes give it chime and enough power to be on stage. This vid's tubescreamer bit is astonishing.

GGillett77, Understood and thanks for the reply. BTW, you are three times the guitar player that I am!

At the risk of sounding negative, I would appreciate more of an opportunity to hear the amp and guitar without the pedals. So often well intentioned guitarists can't seem to resist the temptation to color thier tone with effects and it's difficult to evaluate a guitar and/or amp's real tone.
Larry, thanks for the comment. I actually made this short clip by request of musicians who had contacted me, and in regards to some conversations with the fine folks at DR Z Amplification. there are a lot of videos on you tube showing an uncolored dry signal, and my angle here was more towards the modern rock player, to make a point of information that a DR Z with the correct pedals can hold it's own on any stage, playing along side any of the high gain amplifiers on the market. Thanks - Gary

hows the head room on this compared to your Maz? Does it break up pretty easily?

@rockerverb08 -- It holds the clean well, and maintains clarity at "stage" volume. You can air brake it and get the grit. I should add that my PRS uses vintage humbuckers which i coil tapped at the beginning of the video. I have a guitar with high output humbuckers and it will distort much easier. the maz has a gain and a master knob and will break up more. Both are absolutely amazing with pedals

Hi I'm kinda on the fence I've always wanted a soldano slo for van halen ratt dokken but I live in an apartment. My Marshall Vintage Modern is too loud and I dont like the tone. I also dig brad paisley and chickin pickin country sound. I was thinkin going with a stang ray and using pedals I have a wampler pinnacle 2 reissue fulltone ocd boss metal zone and if I get the Z I'll eventually get a mad proffesor mighty red dist for dokken slo tone What do you think can the Z be an everything amp?

It is a great little rig and will do all of the above given you drive it with the correct pedals.. I use a Bogner Ecstasy, as well as a 1987 Marshall JCM800 (Model 2210 - the only 2 channel 100 watt 800 made) for bigger shows, but the Z , can do big shows as well I just need a little more Z in my monitors for outdoor shows or clubs that hold more that 1000 people where the 4x12 cabs typically give me enough stage volume just out of the amp if i'm close enough to it.
