Monday 15th August and this week it was 70013 Oliver Cromwell in charge of the Mersey Moorlander. I took a few clips on Whilpshire and north of Settle intending to combine them with the best bits from Penrith to Shap summit. However when I came to review the latter material which I had shot continuously from just before Penrith to just after the summit, I realised that it would be impossible to decided which to cut and which to leave, so we have a full 15+ minutes, the whole climb.

  • Ralph, I hope Lizzie gets the CME instead of 5305 if 70013 isn't availible

5305 will have 7 trips over Shap while the other two locomotives may only have one a piece. The days that 70013 and 6201 ran on this stretch over this peice of railroad were the best days to be on this train. 6201 July 30 and 70013 on August 15th.

  • @Mikelandscaper Mike I don't think Lizzie will be on the CME, she is down for the Flyer on Friday and is very unlikely to be out again the following day. I agree those two runs were some of the best this season although I believe that 5305 was outstanding last Saturday.

  • Just watched this quality again, just listening to the sound is awesome, better than any music cd for eardrum bliss! Missus not to happy though, its drowning out Home & Away on the TV in the next room!

  • @moose4675 Thanks, headphones are the way to go....

  • Sitting here with my headphones on watching in full screen....Fantastic stuff Ralph.....superb work from the crew especially the high speed slip as it entered the tunnel....Bob

  • @robmasterman Thanks Bob, not tried it with headphones but I do have seperate speakers on my PC and always find that the sound the directional mic picks up seems to enhance the exhaust noise. Mick Kelly must have lightening reactions or perhaps was waiting for it, I'm not sure but someone says there is flange lubricator there.

  • thanks to the garratts revisited, I've caught what I missed, great video, no problem for ollie, shame not having more of ollie and the like up in the north west this year, had a glut of black 5's, and even they've been falling over a lot lately, blue peter would be welcome, no comment on scotsman, just fingers crossed, cheers.

  • My God that was brilliant! There's quite a lot of footage on YouTube of trains climbing from Tebay, but very little from the Carlisle side. This redresses that imbalance a little. Brings back happy memories too because, when I lived in Norwich, I had many a trip behind this class on the old GER. The really impressive part was that the loco hardly seemed to be extended. Shows you don't really need Kylchap blast pipes to make a good steamer.

  • @moose4675 Glad you like it..
