The Collector - trailer

This is the trailer for my final film i created whilst on the BA animation degree at the University of Wales, Newport where i specialised in stop motion animation. There are still one or two things to sort out before the film is finished, but we are getting there slowly!

I'm about to shoot a stop-motion film myself and was curious as to what camera you were using.

For this i used a cannon G9 which was what was available to me at the time, and stop motion pro v6. I prefer to use a digital slr such as my Olympus E500 with a CCD camera assist for control, but the length of the piece meant that i couldn't because i had no mains power option for it at the time. Depends on the program your using i guess so check what cameras you can use and whether they need an assist or can run with live view. The spec sheets of the software website should have it.

Wow... I must be tired because thats a bit jumbled. The software website should have the spec sheets of what cameras can be used with the software. You want to have the option of live view so that you can see what you did previously and the changes you are now making in real time. Also check out Dragon stop motion. It's a really good stop motion program and i am personally very tempted to switch from stop motion pro to it after test out the beta for version 2. Reliable and intuitive!

Thanks alot howrith! I actually had a chance to play around with Dragon last week, and was very impressed with it. I'll likely be using it in combination with the Canon EOS 7D.

Thats the weird thing with me, I rather be told what to do and animate it to my best ability, I've made loads of films, even a high budget one that was on TV, I was a spark, I'm making a series with my friend and have made countless films. Although film making is fun, I find animating to someone's idea better. Let's say I prefer to say another persons story than my own. So for just animation, pure animation, what would be best for me?

Just because a jar is called a jar doesn't mean they are all the same volume, shape, design. Some are better suited for certain individuals needs. At Newport they teach you to be a film maker, not just an animator. I found that they pushed you hard on the course and i liked that. I've heard many other people that i've met in festivals etc talk about their courses and it doesn't sound half as intense or exciting as Newport so.. Research your universities and decide from that, but newport is good!

Why did you chose Newport over Glamorgan, I see that they have the same course, and Glamorgan will be closer to home for you and for me it would be easier for me because I know Cardiff well. Is Newport better? Is it better than the ATRiuM in Cardiff?
