  • WWII FPS is quite realistic insofar as recreating the tactical aspects of a fire fight. However, no FPS can duplicate mortal fear as well as fatigue, hunger, cold, sickness ect. The ability to suppress fear and to ignore hardships and stay focused on the mission is what makes someone a soldier. FPS has shown that many can, with practice, master batle tactics but what made the WWII generation great was that they could "pwn" despite facing death, being maimed and extreme discomforts in the field.

  • In fact, a video game might create the opposite feelings toward combat. Where a video game creates excitement, actual combat creates opposite feelings in most people.

  • Just yeasterday, I explained to my grandmother the glorious and surreal fact that cinematic and emersive games like COD have made millions of young men aware of the heroism men like the hero on this video and my grandather. I have always loved history and would know of that generation's unbelievable courage and will regardless. Without COD and other however, many 80's babies would not know, let alone elevate WWII vets the legendary status which is entirely appropriate to what they accomplished.

  • I think you're right. It's cool that Call of Duty has created so much interest in history. I think some veterans might not care for the violence though? Especially ones that are dealing with PTSD?
