I'm giving a full out test run of the clean tones on my Fender Blues Junior amp. I performed the tone stack mod found here:

http://billmaudio.com/wp/?page_id=58

It hasn't made a huge difference, but I think that combined with the upgraded Jensen speaker that came stock with the NOS edition a solid improvement in tone is achieved. I really like it.

Note: the mod only affects the mids. The knob is allowed to provide less mids than normal from 1-4 and then the normal amount there on up. The tone in general is more similar to a Twin amp with the mod.

Amp settings:

volume - 3
FAT - off
treble - 5
bass - 7
mid - 8
master - 12
reverb - 2

I performed this mod about a month ago. It is extremely simple. It only requires adding one inch long wire connection to two lugs on the mid pot. I'd highly recommend trying it! It is as easy to remove as it was to put in with two touches of solder.

  • Nice! Thanks for posting!

  • @jharri1 - Thanks a lot!

  • In all seriousness... what is up with u chewing on ur tongue? If u tell me its drugs im cool with that i just am really curious

  • No, I just chew my tongue when I concentrate hard. Gotta love guitar face!

  • @kleydj13 Try chewing gum while you play. Anyway, I am thinking of getting this amp as well. Is it definitely worth it? I play a Fender Deluxe Player's Strat, and I'm in the process of learning blues, so I'd like a nice clean yet a bit crunchy tone, but I also sometimes like to play some rock/distorted stuff, can this amp do both?

  • @mcjoz88 - I'll be honest, I think there are other amps out there that outperform the Blues Junior for cheaper. Egnater makes some really excellent amps for similar cost. Many of the 5W offerings available kill the BJ. VHT Special 6 Ultra comes to mind. Even the Fender Pro Junior is more highly regarded. I recently picked up a Marshall Class 5 and I think it nails bluesy/crunchy tones and was cheaper than a BJ.

  • Nice vid! Thanks for sharing! And folks, he obviously isn't doing meth, because he still HAS his guitar and amp!

  • u should try a lollipop when "concentrating"

    nice guitar btw

  • @Teosao21 Thanks, yes it is a tube amp. 12AX7's in the preamp and EL84's in the power section. The Twin stack mod is a simple mod in the tone control section that modifies what the mid knob does. It is a subtle mod that gives a feel to the tone section that is similar to an old Fender Twin.
