It's crap now, the government puts tons of chemicals in new cars since about 2007.
It's designed to save about 15 people form fire but KILL 400,000,000 million people form CANCER and other HEALTH PROBLEMS THAT CAN KILL YOU, OR MAKE LIFE NOT VERY FUN.

No discussion of concentrations of proven harm for any of those "chemicals", concentrations present in the outgassing, time, temperature, concentration curves. Sounds like another "green" scare. Gee, thanks Rachel Carson of the 2000s (we need another bad scientist)

Just a tip for the people who can't stand the new car smell: get an Air Sponge and keep it in your car. It will help to absorb the toxic off-gassing smells. It takes about six months of having the window open to get rid of the smell (without Air Sponge that is).

Awesome video clip! I'm actually working on a research paper about how learning influences our perception of smell. And this is one great example of how human beings learn that having a new car is like "victory," so it is associated with positive feelings. The positive emotions associated with a new car also influence our perception of its smell, regardless if the smell molecules are actually harmful. Thanks for the video! Very insightful!

I love the smell of my new car in the morning. The smell, you know, that off-gassing PVC, vinyl trimmed leather seat smell, the whole car. Smelled like... victory. Smells like... victory.
