Where I got cheated in England!

England is the last place that Indians of my generation would expect to be cheated. And that too at a chain store outlet which has been a household name in the UK for over a generation. Yet this is exactly what happened to me in the year 2000.
On 31 May 2000, I purchased a camcorder from the Dixons of Hinckley (nowadays known as 'CurrysDigital). When I reached home, I suddenly realised that the camcorder I purchased was a defective and damaged one (it was clearly marked such). I took it back to the shop as soon as I could. "The Manager is out. Could you leave the camcorder with us and call back later?" asked an assistant. I did. I went back a couple of hours later. "The Manager is unavailable. Could you call back tomorrow?" It took me several days more to realise that I had been the victm of an elaborate fraud. I called back several times but the Manager was always 'out'.!!! And the other staff could not do anything without him!!!!??
I wrote to the Manager several times but I did not get anywhere. I wrote to the Customer Care but they were not very helpful.
Finally, I decided to give up. That meant that Dixons kept my money as well as my camera. It is all very very disgraceful!
The Hinkley shop where this cheating took place closed down in August 2010. But I never got my camcorder or money!

Yes, I remember Dixons....they have NO after sales service whatsoever!! As you say, they are now Currys Digital. Just want to push stuff onto you then leave you hanging. Good informative upload!

@ElinNordegren Well, He gets what he has paid for he is not stealing if he gives the damaged one back . Also If taken to court the 'stolen one could be given back in return for an undamaged version of the one he bought, and to start with they have stolen from him by charging high prices for damaged goods. Dont just walk off defeated and let these f*****s get away with it ! The law is on your side and if it is not Then the law has become corrupted and is invalid null and void ! Universal law.

If you have your receipt they do not have a leg to stand on. Go to a different curry's explain your situation. Or go through the complaints. If everything fails go into the same curries take a look at the best ones and steal it ! lol If you get arrested you can explain. They prolly wont want to take you to court but if they do it would prolly get thrown out. There is alot of this going at present and it stinks. PO BOX companies also. They are bad, fobbing off people with crap goods.
