Could you add an example of soldering an SMT micro-usb port? The pins are nearly underneath the damned thing :-P

first solder the big shield pads, then try clamping the pcb and part at a 45 degree angle to give you better access to the pins. Those guys are tough!

this is soooo useful - i was going to spend £90 on a new board for the sake of £7 temp sensor - think i'll go with a diy repair - whats the worse could happen ;-)
