Wow...I'm a new railfan in Erie. So before CSX took over Conrail's lines, CSX units went out via NS? Looking at that one in this video, it was on the NS interchange, correct?

I remember going by it a day or two after abandonment. The signals were still lit and leaves were on the track. Boy was that eerie, no pun intended.

South of Pittsburgh, in
West Brownsville, PA, there is a nice 3/4 mile stretch down Main Street that sees about 10 coal trains a day. There is a picture of it in the old "Conrail Commodities" book.

wish i had gotten more involved in railfanning at a younger age and was able to explore these places. Only street running that i know of in NJ is the New york and greenwood lake. It runs down the middle of a fairly busy street in garfield,nj.

A few side points on the 19th street running trackage. It was part of the former NKP Railroad mainline between Buffalo NY and Cleveland Ohio. It was 1 mile in length and the speed limit for trains was 15 mph. I beleive it was one of the longest street running trackage in the country.

how many trains would run down the street throughout the course of a day?

I would say on average 12 to 14 trains a day. I personally miss the street running trackage. The trackage was in place for over 100 years now it is gone. I remember seeing all kinds of locomotives from many different railroads traveling over the street running trackage, including D&H Alcos, Penn Central F7 units, NYS&W, Union Pacific to name just a few.

The street running trackage was removed a few years ago, the 19th street trackage use to bring railfans from all over the country to see trains on the street, it surely is missed.
