  • @worseto Solar furnaces are used for materials testing, nuclear flash simulations, and carbon cracking to name a few. This is a high heat flux testing platform. White Sands Missile Range, Sandia National Labs, and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory also have one. I'm not sure if worseto is really thinking of the capabilities. I don't know what cheaper stuff "works" just as well. He should enlighten us.

  • I geuss you need to ask yourself does this have any practical use. Maybe it is good for the students to experiment with. I just dont see this turning into anything for an application except teaching.We already have stuff that is cheaper that works just as good.
